A Modern Twist on Stone in Camberwell

At Wilmoore Allstone, we’re passionate about moulding stone into timeless masterpieces of functionality and luxurious design. We recently had the privilege of completing a stunning project on Sunnyside Avenue, Camberwell, that showcases our team’s precision and expert craftsmanship in bringing this vision to life.

Sunnyside Avenue, Camberwell

This magnificent project is located in Melbourne’s inner east in the suburb of Camberwell. Wilmoore Allstone had the pleasure of collaborating with Paul Conrad Architects and Davies Henderson on this build, using Sandstorm Brushed Limestone sourced from CDK Stone in this design.

Our team installed the 800x400x30mm thick stone tiles through a mechanically fixed system using Stone Clips. Instead of glueing the stone onto the substrate, we used stainless steel disks from Stone Clip that attach the stone to the building, ensuring durability.

Additionally, we suspended the sandstone onto the window reveal heads and in the courtyard to achieve a striking solid stone finish. Our expert team ensured all corners were precise 3mm birdsmouth mitres along with perfectly aligned 3mm vertical and horizontal joints.

Finally, the arched windows on the front façade were meticulously cut to size by our talented stonemasons, adding a touch of elegance to the design.

A special mention goes to WMA Scaffolding. Their service in supplying the scaffolding for our team ensured a smooth collaboration between Davies Henderson and Wilmoore Allstone for the length of the project.  WMA Scaffolding’s professionalism and reliability made them an asset on this project.

What are Stone Clips?

The building and design of natural stone walls and exterior façades like those on Sunnyside Avenue, Camberwell, are impressive feats. But it’s what goes on behind the scenes that’s even more so.

These grand features are made possible by Stone Clip, an Australian-owned business specialising in unique stainless steel brackets that are used for the mechanical fixing of stone wall cladding and natural stone. They are an engineer-certified product that offers varying systems to hold the weight of different stones and can be used in the majority of installations, making it a versatile and reliable product.

For instance, the largest stone clip on offer is being used in the Adelaide ANZAC Walk to hold stones of over 400kg, showing that this product can be securely used across projects of all sizes.

Traditional adhesive methods rely on the adhesive to secure the weight of the stone and require additional maintenance over time to maintain structural integrity. With stone clips, the brackets bear the weight of the stone by mechanically anchoring them. This removes additional downward load added to the stones below, creating a secure and durable system that’s built to last.

Through mechanical fixing systems like stone clips, we can ensure that the installation of natural stone features is not only aesthetic but structurally sound, meeting the demand of modern design with an engineered solution.

We take pride in pairing innovative technology with traditional craftsmanship to create impressive results, and Sunnyside Avenue, Camberwell, is a testament to our skill. Our team is committed to masterfully preparing stone with precision and finesse, displaying the endless possibilities when designing with natural stone that can last for many years to come.
